Module 5: Gas Metal Arc Welding Powerpoint

In this virtual lecture, Michael will discuss Module 5: Gas Metal Arc Welding. This video corresponds with Module 5 in your textbook also known as Mig welding. Michael will discuss the safety precautions that go along with the GMAW welding process, machine setup, shielding gas, components, and consumables necessary for GMAW. We will be covering the AWS electrode classification system for GMAW, how to select the correct electrode, and polarity for the type and thickness of material being welded. We will also discuss the operator variables that will help you lay a nice weld bead in the joint by using the correct voltage and wire feed speed settings, arc length, work angle, travel angle, and travel speed.

Module 5: Gas Metal Arc Welding Machine Setup/Demonstration

In this video Michael will go through the setup of the GMAW welding machine and how to select the correct voltage, wire feed speed, shielding gas and torch consumables plus demonstrate operator variables, arc length, work angle, travel angle, and travel speed. Michael will highlight some tips for striking an arc, maintaining an arc, extinguishing the arc, and filling in craters including tie ins/blending/continuing a weld.
