Module 7: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
In this virtual lecture, Michael will discuss Module 7: Gas Tungsten Arc welding also known as Tig welding. This video corresponds with Module 7 in your textbook. Michael will discuss the safety precautions that go along with the GTAW welding process, machine setup, shielding gas, components, and consumables necessary for GTAW. We will be covering the AWS electrode classification for the nonconsumable tungsten electrode as well as the AWS filler metal classification. Michael will also discuss the operator variables that will help you lay a nice weld bead in the joint by using the correct amperage settings, pre and post flow shielding gas, arc length, work angle, travel angle, and travel speed.
Module 7: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Machine Setup/Demonstration
In this video Michael will go through the setup of the GTAW welding machine and how to select the correct amperage, shielding gas (pre and post flow), torch consumables and assembly plus demonstrate operator variables, arc length, work angle, travel angle, and travel speed. Michael will highlight some tips for preparing tungsten, striking an arc, maintaining an arc, extinguishing an arc, feeding filler metal, and filling craters including tie ins/blending/continuing a weld. We will also discuss functions such as pulse that can be found on certain welding machines that will help eliminate excessive heat input and distortion.
